Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
Don’t Trash It! Recycle lithium-ion batteries power phones, laptops, tools, e-bikes, scooters and more. When thrown away, they can leak chemicals, start fires, and pollute the environment. Recycling conserves valuable metals like lithium, prevents hazardous waste from entering soil and water, and reduces fire risks in garbage trucks and landfills.
Green Yards Initiative
Vehicles that are no longer roadworthy still have value. They are sold to salvage yards, and vehicle parts are pulled and sold as an alternative to new parts. Unusable parts and stripped chassis are sold to metal processing facilities for recovery. Recovered scrap metal is sold to manufacturers and made into new products. Salvage operations typically generate vehicular wastes, such as fluids, batteries, etc. EPC’s Small Quantity Generator (SQG) Program inspects salvage yards to evaluate how these wastes are stored and managed. Additionally, the SQG Program has a Green Yard initiative that encourages auto salvage yards to do more than the minimum requirements for environmental compliance by employing best management practices and appropriate pollution prevention strategies. Participation in the Green Yard initiative is voluntary. Facilities that comply with all applicable rules and also successfully go “above and beyond” are certified as a Green Yard.
Hillsborough County Cooking Oil Recycling Effort (CORE)
Hillsborough County just announced a holiday record for cooking oil collected through its CORE Program! Proper containment and disposal of Fats, Oils, and Grease is essential. Hardened grease is a leading source of utility line clogs and sewer overflows. You can help make a difference by participating the CORE Program.
A convenient CORE Cabinet Drop-Off location is available outside of the EPC building at 3629 Queen Palm Drive, Tampa.

Toastmasters Welcomes You
EPC is proud to host the HC Chapter of Toastmasters International© for employees and the community. The Chapter recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary. HC Toastmasters is open to the public; and meetings held the first, second, and fourth Thursday of every month from 12-1 p.m. at the EPC building. The club's goal is to provide a supportive and positive environment where members can build confidence in public speaking. If you're in the area, stop by and join us! EPC Clean Air Fair Recognition
EPC's 2025 Clean Air Fair: Plant-It Earth earned an Award of Merit from the Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission at the 43rd Annual Planning & Design Awards. The program recognizes projects that improve community quality of life and set examples for others to follow.
The 25th Annual Clean Air Fair will be held on Thursday, May 7th at Poe Plaza in Downtown Tampa.
Alain Watson, formerly with EPC's Air Division, retired on January 2nd after 33 years of public service, including 27 years with EPC. A New York native, Alain earned his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Florida in 1987. Throughout his career, Alain served in roles ranging from Environmental Specialist in Citizen Support and Air Toxics to Manager of Air Monitoring, and most recently, Senior Engineering Specialist for Permitting and Compliance. He also represented EPC at the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center, the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Alain was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the October 2025 EPC Commission Meeting. We thank Alain for his expertise, dedication, and team-first attitude in protecting our natural resources and enhancing the quality of life in Hillsborough County.
Philanthropy
EPC's Philanthropic Committee supported Elves for Elders during the 2025 holiday season. This annual gift drive is organized by the Aging Solutions office to support seniors in need within our community. This year, our generous staff provided over 50 personalized gift bags for local seniors and contributed $670 to Aging Solutions to help purchase additional gifts for those in their care. We're grateful for the opportunity to give back and appreciate our amazing staff for making it possible!
Community Service
EPC participates in Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful's (KTBB) Adopt-A-Road Program quarterly. Throughout our four clean up events in 2025, staff collected 70 bags of trash!
The EPC Green Team coordinates these efforts and leads other green initiatives. In 2025, an Agency-wide initiative resulted in the Team recycling ten large bags of aluminum cans, one box of miscellaneous metal scraps, and six boxes of used laboratory gloves. This year, the Team has already collected and recycled several bins of e-waste, including computer monitors, cell phones, laptops, and more!
Annual Martin Luther King Day Parade
On January 19th, EPC staff proudly participated in the Annual City of Tampa MLK Day Parade, organized by the Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation, Inc. We joined community partners including elected officials, county agencies, local businesses, and non-profits. This marks our fourth year participating in this meaningful community event.
