Small Quantity Generator Program

Under Sections 403.7234 and 403.7225, Florida Statutes, each county is required to notify small businesses of their legal responsibilities in properly managing their hazardous wastes. In 1990, The Environmental Protection Commission was charged with carrying out this mission for Hillsborough County. In order to accomplish this task, EPC inspectors perform on-site verification inspections at each business identified as a potential generator of hazardous waste. Currently, there is an average of 16,000 businesses in Hillsborough that are considered potential generators of hazardous waste.

EPC’s SQG program is an educationally-based program. Inspectors understand that most small businesses do not have the resources to hire their own environmental consultant to keep them appraised of the changing regulations. It is our intent to inform businesses of the regulations that apply to them and to assist them in correcting any problems they may have in order to achieve that compliance. In addition to the actual on-site inspections, EPC’s SQG program is a wonderful source of information. We have numerous factsheets and publications available for free, we are able to research issues more readily, and we are a great starting point of getting you to the right person to answer your questions.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please call (813) 627-2600 and ask for a representative of the SQG Program.
