Old Landfills Department

The Waste Management Division maintains files on approximately 130 old landfill sites. These site were operated by Hillsborough County, its municipalities, or private entities. Excavation of and/or construction on solid waste-filled areas requires a Director’s Authorization from the agency.  A Director’s Authorization might entail engineering controls, landfill gas monitoring and mitigation, proper disposal of excavated solid waste, and the prevention of the impoundment of stormwater on solid waste.  You may also visit the City of Tampa's Historic Landfill Assessment Program at http://www.hsa-env.com/COTweb/.
