The Waste Management Division communicates with the
United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Region IV in regard
to the twelve US EPA-administered National Priorities List (i.e., Superfund)
sites that are located in Hillsborough County. The agency maintains general
information files about these Superfund sites. More detailed information
about the assessment and remediation of these sites can be obtained from the
US EPA’s Administrative Records which are located at local public
information repositories and at the US EPA Region IV in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Waste Management Division has been involved in the
initial investigation of some of the uncontrolled and/or abandoned waste
sites that are listed by the US EPA on the CERCLIS or by the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) on the Waste Cleanup Sites
List. The agency maintains general and preliminary information files on some
of the CERCLIS and Waste Cleanup sites that are located in Hillsborough
County.
The Waste Management Division also maintains several
hundred files on petroleum contaminated sites.
