Industrial Wastewater Program
The purpose of the Industrial Wastewater Program is to
improve and protect the quality of groundwater and surface water resulting from
industrial activities. This goal is achieved through permitting, compliance, and
public education.

What is Industrial
Wastewater?
Industrial Wastewater is process and non-process
wastewater generating from manufacturing, commercial, mining, and silvicultural
facilities or activities. This includes the runoff and leachate from areas that
receive pollutants associated with industrial or commercial storage, handling or
processing, and all other wastewater not otherwise defined as
domestic wastewater.
What types of Industrial
Wastewater Facilities are in Hillsborough County?
Wastewater characteristics from the various industries
are highly variable in terms of physical and chemical contents. These characteristics
along with the volume of wastewater generated influence the mode of disposal. The two
primary disposal options currently in practice are discharge to surface and ground
waters.
