Rick Tschantz, General Counsel and Director of Legal and Administration Services at EPC, was selected by the Florida Local Environmental Resource Agencies’ (FLERA) Board of Directors to receive the 2019 Environmental Leadership Award. This award honors the FLERA member who has displayed leadership in their community, as well as advocating for effective environmental policy changes that benefit the entire state of Florida.
Mr. Tschantz served as the Deputy and Acting General Counsel at the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) from 1989-1999. During this time, he played an vital role in the tri-county wellfield litigation, reflecting the State's great confidence in his environmental leadership ability.
In 2000 he began his career with the EPC, where he has served with distinction as both General Counsel and Director. He helped lead the Agency through a difficult time in 2007 when the Wetlands Program was under threat of elimination. Mr. Tschantz has continued to use his expertise to enhance communication and advocacy for local environmental protection efforts, including the preservation of home rule. He is widely recognized and highly respected in the environmental community for his exemplary leadership, integrity and dedication. He retires in September 2019 after 30 years of distinguished public service.
